I've been going to Walkabout Outfitter for years now, but I have to shout out to my local store in Downtown Roanoke, of course. The products they sell here are Great, but what I love even more are the people that work here>Going into an outfitter store can be intimidating, almost like going to the gym the first time. You don't quite know yet what equipment to start with, how it works, or what works best for your goals. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful with any questions you may have, and Not pushy trying to sell you things as soon as you step in the door. The space is welcoming, clean, and they have a lot to select from. I've gotten sized for shoes, packs, and even got my first pair of ski overalls from here! Love WO Roanoke!

Great store. Amazing customer service. The selection of outdoor gear and fashionable clothing is the best in roanoke. The curated collection of items for sale clearly had a lot of thought put into it. if they don't have it in stock they can order it for you and ship it directly to your house. I highly recommend this store.

When needing to replace my husband’s walking sticks their employee was very helpful. Rather than just making a sale she asked questions that allowed her to guide me to the best choice for his needs. Every time I have bought something there the staff has been friendly and helpful.

WAO is the best place to shop! They always have what you want and if not will order for you. The employees are the best of the best. Always polite and friendly! They also have all the answers!! I highly recommend their business! Thank you WAO for always helping me ❤️

Great little outfitter in Roanoke. Shoes, moderate gear selection, bags, a few sleeping bags and pads. Lots of clothes. Various sized fuel canisters. Reasonably priced bag meals. Would be useful for your thru hike!

The Roanoke store is the third Walkabout location my husband and I have visited. Just like our previous experiences (in Harrisonburg and Lexington), we left as happy customers with some new gear! The staff were knowledgeable and welcoming.

Quality merchandise for all your outdoor and active needs. They have the brands like Patagonia, Kuhl and Duck Head among others that I really appreciate for their durability. Good service by staff who assisted me. I was in the market for a vest and found a few options. The prices are steep for quality, but I tend to be ok with that. They are a large store that also has all your outdoor footwear and sock needs too! Nothing but praise for this chain store. Next time in town will return.
